Dressing & Chapel of Rest
Do you need to provide clothes?
It is not essential to provide clothes as we use a soft coffin sheet to gently wrap the body as minimal movement is kinder.
However, if there is an outfit that you wish for your family member to be dressed in, please let us know and we will arrange a time for you to drop the clothes into our office (please note a £75 dressing fee applies). Or, there may be personal items (i.e. letters, cards) that you may wish for us to place in the coffin with your family member. Please note, large items made of glass or metal – or batteries – are not allowed for burial or cremation
Chapel of Rest
Our private modern mortuary in SW London, is a high-tech clinical facility separate to our shop, that has been approved by the Good Funeral Guide. Whilst we can accommodate video calls for certain circumstances, it is a clinical environment and does not have a chapel of rest.
If you wish for private time with your family member, we can arrange this in the chapel of our local church. The setting is calm and private, away from the busyness of the outside world, giving you peaceful time. There is an additional fee of £295 to cover costs for the chapel hire, transportation and preparation of your family member.
Viewings – what you need to know
If you would like to spend time with your family member with the coffin open, we would usually recommend arranging this sooner rather than later. Although we provide the highest standards of care, hygiene and refrigeration, natural changes do occur over time and can gradually affect appearance.
We will always guide you sensitively and honestly, as every situation is individual.
